French football academies: FFF ratings and player pathways
Paris Saint-Germain leads the Ligue 1 selection published by the LFP, with 4.55 out of five for 2025/26. An official assessment and a count of players found in biographies answer different questions. This report lets readers examine both, with explicit sources and scope. LFP ↗
What the FFF assessment measures
The 2025/26 assessment covers 33 centres: 18 in Ligue 1, 11 in Ligue 2 and four in National, using the divisions of the assessed season. Five criteria concern professional contracts, playing time, national-team representation, education and European representation. Its cutoff is 31 May 2026. The table below retains selected officially published ratings rather than converting the report’s graphical stars into new numbers. FFF ↗

A player can have more than one starting point
Our biographies link 386 players to 44 development institutions. Counting produces 452 unique player–institution links rather than 452 people: 58 players attended at least two identified academies. Each person counts once per institution even when they returned for another spell. A national institute and an amateur youth club can contribute to the same pathway as a professional academy.
Adding academy member counts counts some players more than once. The person total is calculated separately from unique player identities.
Compare observations rather than reputations
The twelve selected dossiers connect clubs covered by our league reference with centres mentioned in official publications. For each institution, the table shows linked players, shared pathways, date precision and destination clubs in the snapshot. A listed player establishes a documented spell rather than exclusive development credit, first-team promotion or regulatory club-trained eligibility.
Sorting by sample size describes this selection. It is not an academy quality ranking.

What the coverage cannot establish
The starting roster selection contains 972 names: 755 identities were linked exactly and 217 remain unmatched. This selection affects observed counts. Of 455 linked youth spells, 410 have both a start year and an end year. These years do not establish an exact duration in days. Most sampled players come from French squads, with only 15 deliberately selected international examples. The selection therefore measures neither all former trainees nor an export or success rate. A destination club does not establish a direct transfer from the academy.
Are the dates documented?
Players with at least one spell with both year endpoints, out of all players linked to each institution.
A complete spell does not establish a complete career chronology. The chart describes date precision rather than academy performance.
Reproduce the calculations and check a pathway
The youth-pathway snapshot used here is dated 23 October 2026. Calculations deduplicate player identities and institutions, while retaining repeated spells in the period count. JSON and CSV exports expose the denominators. Each dossier links to biographies and their revisions. Official ratings remain in a separate table; no overall score mixes the two datasets.

Two pathways, two ways to read the sources
Kylian Mbappé
The Academy’s official history places his arrival at Monaco in 2013. Our pathway also documents his earlier time at Bondy: crediting a single institution would erase part of the story.
